Mikawa Towel Collection

Off-white waffle design

100% organic cotton, 350 GSM

SALE - was from £9

The Mikawa Towel is one of our most luxurious towel collections. Made using 100% cotton with a generous fabric density of 350 GSM, this waffle weave design puts quality first. Inspired by the towels made in the Japanese region of Imabari, we developed a collection that far exceeds absorbency rates of other standard terry weave designs, without the weight: upon being placed in a bath of water, each towel must submerge itself within seconds to pass our test, while the featherweight design makes it the best we’ve ever found for wrapping up wet hair. Available in calm colourways, the simplicity of this design aims to place the luxurious feel and masterful construction in centre stage – a testament to Japanese-inspired style.

Made in Portugal, the Mikawa collection borrows from generations of Japanese towel-crafting tradition. Towels traditionally made in this region are tested for absorbency, thread losing rate, and pile tear resistance; we held ourselves to these standards, and created a towel that’s even softer than the original. The waffle weave structure too ensures the towels remain extremely lightweight, and therefore quick-drying. Inspired by this Japanese tradition, we sought to recreate the towel closer to home, to reduce the overall footprint from creating each piece to delivering it to your door.

Stella ASKS:

"What is 'pile tear resistance'?"

"Pile tear resistance is a test that is carried out before the towels are produced in bulk. It measures the durability and strength of the fabric, and ensures that even after heavy use and multiple washes, the towel will not thin or lose absorbency."
